Tequila hangovers in Cabo are different. Higher-quality reposados and añejos drink smoother than what you get at home, so you drink more without noticing. The salt-and-sun environment compounds dehydration, and silver/blanco tequila is one of the highest-congener spirits if you go for cheaper bottles. Here’s why tequila hits harder in Cabo and what an actual recovery looks like.
Why tequila in Cabo hits different
- You drink more without noticing. A good Cabo añejo at a beachfront restaurant tastes nothing like cheap college tequila. The “ouch” signal that limits intake is absent.
- The environment is dehydrating before the alcohol. 88°F, salt air, sun exposure, often a beach day before dinner. You’re already 1–1.5 L down by the first margarita.
- Congeners in cheap blancos. Lower-end mixto tequilas (the 51% agave kind) contain congeners that contribute to worse next-day symptoms. 100% blue agave tequila is the floor for serious tequila drinking.
- Sugar in margaritas. A standard restaurant margarita has 30–50 g of sugar. Sugar crashes amplify the morning-after low.
- Late dinners. Cabo dinner culture means drinking continues until 11 pm or later, with not enough sleep before sun-up.
The result: a tequila hangover in Cabo isn’t just “more alcohol.” It’s alcohol plus dehydration plus sugar crash plus sleep deprivation plus heat exposure. A multi-factor problem needs a multi-factor solution.
What actually works the morning after
Step 1: Replace fluid (fast)
You’re 2–3 L down by morning. A liter of IV saline is the most efficient way to restore plasma volume. Oral hydration helps but takes hours when your stomach is irritated.
Step 2: Replace electrolytes (specifically)
Sodium, potassium, magnesium and chloride drop with heavy drinking. Coconut water helps a little but is heavy on potassium and light on sodium. An IV bag with electrolytes corrects all four at once.
Step 3: Manage symptoms
For nausea: ondansetron is the gold standard, given by our medical team when clinically appropriate. For headache: ketorolac IV bypasses an irritated stomach. For the foggy depleted feeling: B-complex and B12.
Step 4: Buffer the oxidative load
Glutathione is the most-requested add-on for a reason. It supports the liver clearing acetaldehyde and addresses the “wrung out” feeling that lingers for hours after the headache eases.
Step 5: Eat & sleep
The IV does the rapid correction. A salty, protein-heavy meal and a real nap consolidate the recovery. Skip these and you’ll drift back to a worse afternoon.
What our tequila-recovery drip looks like
The Recovery / Glow-Up drip is our most-booked tequila-morning option:
- 1 L of normal saline (the base)
- B-complex + B12
- Magnesium and electrolytes
- Anti-nausea (ondansetron) when clinically appropriate
- Anti-inflammatory (ketorolac) when clinically appropriate
- Glutathione — the most-requested add-on for tequila mornings specifically
- Optional vitamin C push (the “I have a beach day today and need to feel human” upgrade)
For lighter tequila nights, the classic Myers’ Cocktail is enough.
The night-before play
Most people don’t think to do this, but a hydration drip the afternoon before a known-heavy night is the single best move. You go into the night above baseline and require significantly less recovery the next morning. The pure Hydration drip is the right call for this; 30 minutes, no other ingredients needed.
Honest expectations
An IV drip the morning after a serious tequila night will move you from “8/10 awful” to “3/10 mildly tired” in 45 minutes. It will not undo a 3 am bedtime. It will not give back the calories you ate at 1 am. It will absolutely make the difference between writing off the day and salvaging an 80% beach afternoon.

Why is a tequila hangover in Cabo worse?
You’re already dehydrated from heat and sun before drinking, smooth añejos let you drink more without noticing, sugary margaritas add a sugar crash, and late dinners compress sleep. Multi-factor problem.
What helps a tequila hangover fastest?
IV hydration with electrolytes is the fastest recovery intervention — 30 to 45 minutes from line in to feeling significantly better. Oral fluids are slower because of stomach irritation.
Does mixto tequila give worse hangovers than 100% agave?
Yes for most drinkers. Mixto tequilas (51% agave) have higher congener loads that contribute to worse next-day symptoms. 100% blue agave tequila is the floor for fewer-congener drinking.
Should I get an IV the morning after or before drinking?
Both work. The night-before hydration drip prevents most of the morning-after deficit. The morning-after recovery drip fixes what already happened. Heavy tequila nights warrant both.
Is a hangover IV safe after tequila?
For healthy adults with no kidney, heart or pregnancy concerns, yes. We screen at intake. Anyone visibly very intoxicated is sent to the ER, not given a drip.
Educational content. IV therapy supports recovery; it is not a treatment for problem drinking. Anyone with serious dehydration symptoms (chest pain, vomiting blood, confusion) should go to a hospital, not book a drip.
